This Friday, join Andy MacKinnon at the Wild Pacific Trail Discovery Tent next to the Amphitrite Lighthouse for a special guided mushroom walk!

Andy is a renowned forest ecologist, naturalist, and co-author of Mushrooms of British Columbia and the brand-new Plants of the Pacific Coast, a beautiful new field guide to the plants of our coastal region.

You’ll explore a section of the Lighthouse Loop, discovering what’s growing in the forest and learning more about the fascinating fungi and plants all around us. Free/by donation and open to all ages. 

Small Town, Big Picture: Tofino is one of 5 courses available within the  West Coast Ambassador Program. This three-hour orientation session delivers the “big picture” of living in Tofino. Learn about local history and basic ecology, cross-cultural understanding, businesses and activities, festivals, and important civic information. This is a great way to get up-to-date local information about living and working in Tofino.

The West Coast Ambassador Program is a joint initiative of the Raincoast Education Society,  Tourism Ucluelet and Tourism Tofino.  The Raincoast Education Society is responsible for course curriculum, registration, and program delivery.

An online workshop for non-Indigenous people to understand settler colonialism, reflect on responsibilities, and build right relationships.

Hosted by Tsimka Martin and Jeanette Sheehy. The online workshop is a welcoming and supportive space for non-Indigenous people aiming to make change, show up well, and work toward right relationship with Indigenous people, communities, and Nations. Together we’ll look at the systems and structures we live within – settler colonialism – and how it functions both structurally (laws etc.) and interpersonally, and the resulting power dynamics and imbalances. Grounded in this awareness, we will talk about settler responsibilities and map existing and potential pathways toward right-relationship.

Indigenous people are more than welcome to attend, knowing we will be discussing the world as it is including descriptions of colonial violence and focusing on the settler responses and feelings that maintain these systems. This workshop is rooted in hope and the possibility of a more loving and just world.

Learn about and honour Indigenous Veterans Day by making beaded poppies with Elizabeth George, a Nuu-chah-nulth artist from Ahousaht First Nation.

Indigenous Veterans Day is observed each year on November 8th. Wearing a beaded poppy is a way to recognize the contributions made by Indigenous members of the military who served in the two world wars and the Korean War and the many who are still serving to this day.

The Pacific Rim Whale Festival is an annual event celebrating the return of Pacific Grey Whales to the west coast of Vancouver Island on their Northern migration route. The week-long festival hosts a number of fun events throughout Tofino, Ucluelet, and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

The Pacific Rim Whale Festival is a non-profit society that began over 30 years ago with a group of concerned citizens who wanted to create awareness about this pristine ecosystem, the endangered Grey Whale population, and coastal traditions. The festivities each spring are centred around these great ocean giants while focusing on their incredible migration and long-term protection.

Join the West Coast NEST, the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust, and local partners for our Biodiversity Discovery Days, a fun and informative three-day celebration of the International Day for Biodiversity!
