Ty-Histanis

The Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation has over 1200 members and three primary communities within their traditional territory spread out between Meares Island, Tofino, and Long Beach. The community of Ty-Histanis is adjacent to Esowista, closer to the highway. Approximately 375 people live in Esoswista/Ty-Histanis. These communities are 20 km from the Tofino-Ucluelet junction and approximately 15km from Tofino.

Accommodation

There is no visitor accommodation in Ty-Histanis although groups may obtain permission to camp by special arrangement. Please call the office at 250-725-3350 to discuss.

Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation runs the Best Western Tin Wis Resort in Tofino, which has meeting and banquet facilities available as well.

Please note that Opitsaht, Esowista, and Ty-Histanis are primarily residential communities and have very few services for visitors. There are no banks, stores, or ATMS. There is limited cellular service.

    Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation and its people are rich in history, skills, and capacity in many areas including: cultural knowledge and practices, cultural workshops, digital storytelling, fisherman and harvesters, singers and dancers, and traditional ecological knowledge.
