The Wild Pacific Trail naturalists and other local partner organizations look forward to meeting you for walks and events at their Discovery Tent overlooking Amphitrite Lighthouse on the lighthouse Loop Trail section.

The Wild Pacific Trail is a unique outdoor classroom that offers incredible opportunities to connect people to nature. Their seasonal Discovery Tent at the lighthouse offers revolving topics for all ages.

Easy to walk, one-hour programs aim to engage both visitors and local communities. Topics range from natural to cultural history. 

Learning opportunities are offered most days of the week from June until September. Stay tuned for more details - full schedule of events coming soon!

This summer, let interpreters from Parks Canada inspire and fascinate you as you experience all that the region has to offer! 

Discover and explore the tide-pools and rainforest. Feel a fuzzy sea otter pelt. Listen to stories that are older than our ancient trees. See the land and water from a different perspective as you immerse yourself in the cultural and natural treasures of the Pacific Rim. 

NOTE: Public programs are supported through the purchase of a national park entry pass. Programs are presented in English, with special programming available in French.

Why did the cedar tree walk up the hill? Join this free Wild Pacific Trail Society guided walk on the famously storm swept coastline to explore how trees not only survive but potencially live forever.

Visit Parks Canada Interpreters at the lighthouse Discovery Tent every Thursday from 1-2:30pm and enjoy interactive activities with rotating topics to discover, learn, and have fun. Get to know some local whales, test your wildlife knowledge on the trivia wheel, and try to spot a whale spout from shore!. Along the way, you'll learn about the biology, ecology, and conservation of whales and other marine mammals.

No registration is required.

The Tonquin trail showcases some of the region's most iconic species and unforgettable views. Join RES for an interpretative walk and take a journey from rainforest to kelp forest. You'll discuss a myriad of species, explore the diversity of ecosystems in the coast, and find ourselves enmeshed in their connections. Bring your walking shoes, water, and sense of wonder!

Get your gumboots on and join Raincoast Education Society for a hands-on exploration of local eelgrass meadows! We’ll use a beach seine to gently catch and observe the fascinating ocean creatures that call this intertidal habitat home—everything is safely returned to the sea. Learn about local ecosystems, spot some cool critters, and see how interconnected life in the ocean really is! What we find is in-seine!

You will have the opportunity to help pull the seine up onto the beach and investigate species caught inside. Raincoast Education Society staff will teach you how to handle the animals caught with care.

These interactive opportunities are FREE, all-ages events. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join! Events will run rain or shine, and gumboots are recommended.

Join Redd Fish Restoration Society and Ucluelet Aquarium to learn how to draw like a scientist and explore a touch tank every Thursday in July & August as part of their Salmon Trail event.

The salmon trail is a joint effort between the Ucluelet Aquarium and Redd Fish Restoration Society to share the joy and knowledge of Pacific Salmon with you! This program runs through July and August, with six fin-tastic stops from Ucluelet to Tofino. Participants have the opportunity to score a Salmon Trail patch by visiting a minimum of three salmon-centered educational stations.

Come by for a free community event at ʔuušmaʕukʔas – Arts & Commerce Hub (located under the Legion, beside the Museum). All are welcome to connect, explore, and enjoy what’s on offer. No tickets or registration needed — just show up and take part!

This Tidepools Walk with Ucluelet Aquarium and Wild Pacific Trail Society is a highlight of any visit.

Low tide days: Don’t miss the chance to go tidepool exploring with experts from Ucluelet Aquarium and the WPTS when the tide is low. We’ll go looking for the amazing creatures that call Big Beach home.

High Tide Fridays:Explore creatures and features of the beach. Ask experts your tough ocean questions. Our guided beach walk is above the high-tide line respecting the power of the ocean (No Tidepool exploring if the tides are too high).

Please supervise children carefully and wear sturdy shoes, please no pets.

Meet at the sheltered picnic area at Big Beach.

No registration is required. This is a free event, with any donations going to continued programming on the Wild Pacific Trail.

Parks Canada Coastal Stewards will greet you at the Amphitrite Lighthouse Discovery Tent. Learn about staying safe on and near the water. The ocean is unpredictable. Always stay on the trail. Never venture down into the surge channels along the Wild Pacific Trail or out onto the rocks near the ocean. Learn fun facts about the power of the ocean!
