LEO Network - observing environmental anomalies

Dr. Okey, Director at the Centre for Climate, Ecosystems, and Health (University of Victoria) is working to expand the Local Environmental Observer (LEO) Network from Alaska to British Columbia. The LEO Network documents time and local specific events and encourages communication between communities, academic institutions and resource agencies. The purpose is to increase understanding about climate and other drivers of change and to develop appropriate adaptation strategies. To achieve this, LEO applies traditional knowledge, western science, and modern technology to achieve a robust and effective environmental health surveillance system.

Dr. Okey has extensive experience in marine ecosystem science, fisheries ecosystem science, conservation and management of marine living resources, and policy advice. He has conducted a wide variety of marine ecosystem assessments, and is most recently focused on marine climate change impacts and vulnerability assessments, as well as progress toward connecting and integrating whole trophodynamic analyses with global climate models.

This event is open to everyone and admission is fee.
