KNOWLEDGE AND HOW TO RESPOND TO REMOTE EMERGENCIES IN THE WILDERNESS
The Advanced Wilderness and Remote First Aid (AWFA) re-certification course is a three day re-certification course in Tofino. This course is run in conjunction with the full 40 hour AWFA course taking place over 5 days; Friday evening (April 28) to Tuesday (May 2). Only the Friday evening portion (CPR portion) of the course takes place inside. The rest of the course is run in the field with a focus on hands on experience. Students will learn and practice; spinal immobilization, building splints, building stretchers, carrying patients in a stretcher over rugged terrain, treating hypothermia, re-aligning fractures and dislocation as well as a variety of other wilderness rescue procedures.

Most importantly the course develops students abilities to help patients by developing wilderness emergency decision making skills required to assess patients and make evacuation plans. Students will practice both the acquired hard skills in combination with decision making skills during realistic outdoor scenarios designed to build students confidence in their ability to respond to emergencies in remote settings.

This is an interactive hands on course, students should be prepared to spend full days outside, get dirty, wet, work hard and have fun.

Red Cross instructor Emre Bosut, co-owner of T’ashii Paddle School brings 17 years of outdoor industry and instructing experience to T’ashii’s wildenress first aid courses.
