Outline:

The benefits of learning outside the traditional four walls are becoming increasingly important. Designed to help teachers get their students out of the classroom and into the real world, this workshop offers teacher-led sessions focused on developing support networks and creating strategies for connecting the curriculum to learning about space. 

Research staff will additionally give sessions related to their work being done in the Clayoquot sound, including sea lice monitoring, microplastics inventories and sea star viability studies.

Friday, August 26, 2022:

  • 4:00 - Catch Water Taxi in Tofino
  • 5:00 - Orientation and settle into Cedar Coast
  • 6:00 - Dinner
  • 7:00 - Cultural Speaker from Ahousaht & Keltsmaht First Nations
  • 8:00 - Introductions to place-based Learning

Saturday, August 27, 2022:

  • 8:00 - Breakfast
  • 9:00 - Hike to Ahous Bay
  • 10:00 - Place-based learning support systems
  • 12:00 - Beach lunch at Ahous Bay
  • 2:00 - Integrating place with curriculum
  • 4:00 - Return hike to Field Station
  • 6:00 - Dinner
  • 8:00 - CCFS research presentation

Sunday, August 28, 2022:

  • 8:00 - Breakfast
  • 9:00 - CCFS curriculum sampler
  • 12:00 - Lunch
  • 1:00 - Wrap session
  • 2:00 - Clean-up, pack-up
  • 2:30 - Departures

Cost of the workshop includes six meals, station fees, and water taxi.
