Outline:

It is NOT a first aid course. All crew on boats are required to have a Marine Emergency Duties certification - the SDVBS is the most basic. If you have another higher MED certification you do NOT need the SDVBS.

To be the captain of a small commercial boat, you will usually need the SVOP, SDVBS (MEDA3), and ROCM (minimum certifications). You may also need Marine Basic First Aid. Please email admin@marinetrainingbc.com for more info about certification requirements.

Times: 800am – 400pm (with a break for lunch)

To be the sole operator (captain) of a small commercial vessel you must be at least 18 years old. Minimum age for all our courses - 16 years old. To be successful in this course, you will need to be proficient in written + verbal communication in English.

Participants will receive a text book in class, but should bring a pen and paper if they want to take notes. Participants must attend the whole course to pass. The courses are designed to get someone, with little or no experience to the required level, but there will be plenty to keep more experienced mariners interested!
