Ucluelet Area

Outline:

This course is a three-day coastal training experience designed for paddlers and anglers ready to fish the open West Coast effectively and safely. Building on foundational kayak fishing skills, this program focuses on targeting Coho, Chinook, Lingcod, and Rockfish/Sea Bass while developing advanced seamanship, including coastal navigation, weather and swell interpretation, risk management, and safe travel in dynamic ocean conditions.

Fishing strategy, lure and jig presentation, and open-water tactics are paired with essential paddling skills—boat handling, surf and swell awareness, rescues, and cold-water safety—so you can confidently use your kayak as a fishing platform in exposed marine environments. Instruction is tailored to participant goals, ensuring every student advances their skills and comfort level on the rugged BC coast. This is an ideal program for students who are planning to be more self-sufficient on their summer kayak trips and expeditions, as well as those new to the sport looking to learn quick!
