Outline:
Our emphasis is on the social-ecological system relationships that foster community resilience on the west coast. Magis (2010, 401) defines community resilience as the “existence, development and engagement of community resources by community members to thrive in an environment characterized by change, uncertainty, unpredictability and surprise.” The ability to respond to social and environmental change is of key importance for understanding the ‘Biosphere and Sustainability’. Throughout this course residency, we will learn first-hand from local people and their experiences of change, recovery, and transformation.
This course is a part of the Royal Roads University Environmental Education & Communication Program. More information, including registration and tuition details, can be found here.
