Datum’s 4 Day Practical Small Vessel Captain’s Course

The Boat Boss course by Datum Marine offers intensive practical training for small vessel captains aspiring to excellence and professional marine standards. With a focus on real-world scenarios, this challenging four-day program complements the theoretical knowledge they teach in the commercial boating world. The training is designed from a Search and Rescue perspective, it emphasizes 100% attendance, team-building exercises and even night time navigation. Successful participants receive a graded report with comments from Datum's certified instructors, showcasing their growth into professional, safe, and confident Boat Boss Captains.

Start Time: Day 1 - 8am

Participants must attend the whole course to pass. The courses are designed to get someone, with little or no experience to the required level, but there will be plenty to keep more experienced mariners interested!

Prerequisites:

To be the captain of a small commercial boat, you will usually need the SVOP, SDVBS (MEDA3) and ROCM (minimum certifications). You may also need Marine Basic First Aid. Minimum age for all our courses - 16- years old To be successful in this course, you will need to be proficient in written + verbal communication in English.
