Leah Shumka is an academic with expertise in the areas of gender, sexuality, and feminist politics. Over the last 15 years, her work has focused largely on people working in the sex industry, and the social determinants of their health and well-being. Her more current research considers both the historical emergence of sex positive feminism and its impact of women’s sexuality, as well as upstream forms of sexualized violence prevention. Leah is former Executive Director of Peers Victoria. She currently teaches in the Department of Gender Studies at the University of Victoria, while also working in Equity and Human Rights.
