Arthur Lismer Paintings Exhibit

The Tofino Clayoquot Heritage Museum received a generous donation of two Arthur Lismer paintings from an anonymous donor. This past December 2022 the museum installed the paintings after they had been conserved and framed. 

Arthur Lismer, a member of the Group of Seven, visited Long Beach on several occasions and painted ocean and forest scenes. A small beach near Wickaninnish Beach is named after him. 

Maquinna Hotel: If Walls Could Talk" Exhibit

The Maquinna Hotel, built in 1959, was the largest building in downtown Tofino and was at times a vibrant social hub. This exhibit delves into past owners, clients, and changes that the Maquinna Hotel has seen over the years.

Join the Wild Pacific Trail to explore the surprising life of trees! What is so special about the beautiful Western Red Cedar trees along the Wild Pacific Trail? How come they used to make airplanes using Sitka Spruce? Why are the world’s largest trees along the Pacific Rim? For the answer to all these questions, join their knowledgeable naturalist on June 4, 11, 18, and 25!

Learn about local history and basic ecology, cross-cultural understanding, businesses and activities, festivals, host etiquette, and important civic information. This is a great way to get up-to-date local’s information about living and working in Ucluelet.

Join the Wild Pacific Trail to learn about coastal predators. Survival is all about food, learn about bears, wolves cougars, and how to keep them from harm. Did you know that a bear can smell six times better than a dog? Some bears have even learned how to open car doors if they smell food. To learn fun carnivore facts and how to avoid conflict when visiting this wildlife-rich ecosystem, be sure to join their knowledgeable naturalist on June 6, 13, 20, and 27!

• 10 - 11 am (every Thursday)
• Meet at the trailhead in the Whale Parking Lot, middle of Coast Guard Road.

The Wild Pacific Trail has a magical bog area their naturalist is excited to showcase. See ancient dwarf trees, a rare cedar swamp, carnivorous plants, and other unique species. Birds also love the bog, especially Steller’s Jay. Bring your camera! This guided walk will help you explore a world seldom given the attention it deserves as a climate hero. This section of trail is a quiet refuge worth exploring more than once. Join them on June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

Explore life where land meets the sea. How are beaches formed? Is that sand under your feet? Why is Ucluelet’s Big Beach so different than the big sandy beaches near Tofino? Ever wonder about the rocks at Big Beach? How do those big trees lining the shore stand so straight and tall? What animal species are here? Big Beach etiquette included (why is it harmful to remove shells from the beach?). Sturdy footwear is highly recommended so you can explore the treasures of the tides if the tides are low. June 9, 16, and 23 will be led by a Wild Pacific Trail naturalist, and on June 30th, the Ucluelet Aquarium will lead this walk.

Park at the Frog parking lot at Marine and Matterson Road.

Beach tours are not suitable for toddlers due to the rough rocky terrain, small children must be supervised by an adult please.

Join Strawberry Isle Marine Research Society (SIRMS) for their 2023 Sea Star Surveys at Tonquin Beach!

No pre-survey signup is required, meet at the trailhead in the Tonquin Beach parking lot (367 Tonquin Park Rd).

Come and help SIMRS monitor the health of our colorful star-shaped friends as part of their 9-year citizen science monitoring project on our coastline.

Remember to dress for the weather, wear sturdy waterproof footwear (for traversing slippery rocks) and come ready to survey some sea stars!
