Community-based salmon monitoring in the Great Bear Rainforest

In Canada's changing legal and political landscape, First Nations are playing a leading role in the conservation and management of ecosystems. Speaker Will Atlas will discuss a monitoring program built with the Heiltsuk Nation which will support sustainability and climate resilience in Food Social and Ceremonial (FSC) salmon fisheries.

Speaker Will Atlas is a biologist currently working on his PhD in Dr. Jonathan Moore’s lab at Simon Fraser University (MSc 2012, SFU and BSc 2008 U of Washington). His research focus is the conservation of coastal ecosystems, particularly supporting sustainable fisheries by leveraging knowledge of population structure, life histories and landscape scale drivers of ecosystem dynamics.
