Christen Dokk Smith was born and raised in Norway. He completed a four year apprenticeship in woodcarving at the Viking ship museum in Oslo, during which he was trained in the classical European way of carving, focusing on Viking, Medieval, Baroque and Rococo, and learned the art of making high precision replicas for the museum. In 2011, Christen attended the City and Guild of London Art School on scholarship, where he could focus on his passion – sculptures. After graduating, Christen moved to Tofino to learn from the First Nation carvers and pursue an artistic career. He has done several commissions for the Viking ship museum, university in Oslo, churches, and for individuals.
