Summer months in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region are full of workshops, activities, and community events that make this an inspiring time for new experiences. Across the region, partners are offering countless field courses, hands‑on workshops, and community events that invite us to deepen our connection to place and build new skills outdoors. From forest mindfulness walks to cultural connection programming and immersive training opportunities, there are so many ways to learn, grow, and experience the coast right now. Whether you’re expanding your skills, seeking meaningful time outside, or exploring new interests, we’re grateful to share another season of curiosity, community, and connection. |

Join acclaimed author, photographer, and naturalist Adrian Dorst for the launch of his new book, The Wild West Coast. Through a collection of compelling photographs, Adrian provides a window into Clayoquot Sound's mysterious rainforest and its wild valleys, as well as an elusive glimpse of many of its secretive inhabitants. Come enjoy a reading, and book signing, along with light refreshments, as the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust celebrates this latest publication and Adrian’s remarkable contributions, capturing and sharing the stories of the west coast. | Learning from Place: Connecting Curriculum, Community & Environment | |
Join us for a hands‑on educator professional development retreat in Tofino and Ucluelet. Throughout the retreat, educators will gain fresh ideas from innovative place‑based practitioners, participate in experiences they can replicate or adapt in their own communities, and take home ready‑to‑use lesson plans and resources aligned with the BC curriculum. Participants will also build new connections with fellow educators, deepen their understanding of Indigenous and local knowledge systems, and strengthen their confidence in bringing experiential learning to life in their classrooms. | | Salmon Trail 2026 with Redd Fish Restoration | |
Redd Fish’s Annual Salmon Trail is continuing all summer long! They invite you to visit their 5 stations to learn more about salmon, their unique life stages, and the different ecosystems that support them. The Salmon Trail is a joint project between Redd Fish Restoration Society and the Ucluelet Aquarium, consisting of five educational stations across Ucluelet and Tofino on different days of the week. The stations aim to educate about the salmon lifecycle and why salmon is so important to coastal communities. Find them daily at Redd Fish Supply Co and the Ucluelet Aquarium, Wednesdays at the Lighthouse Loop, Thursdays at the Kwisitis Visitor Centre, Saturdays at the Tofino Market and Sundays at the Ucluelet Market.

| | Salmon Secrets Documentary Screening with Clayoquot Action | |
This August, Clayoquot Action is continuing to host free Wednesday‑night screenings of Salmon Secrets at the Clayoquot Sound Community Theatre. The award‑winning documentary follows local underwater cinematographers as they investigate an experimental fish farm near Tofino, revealing the urgent challenges facing wild salmon. Each screening also features a Tla‑o‑qui‑aht First Nations guest speaker, offering powerful insight into ongoing efforts to protect salmon on the coast. | | Haahuupa Series Cultural Connections with Pacific Rim National Park Reserve | |
Pacific Rim National Park Reserve’s Haahuupa Series Cultural Connections is happening throughout August and early September with multiple presentations from Nuu-cha-nulth knowledge holders. This series invites visitors from around the world to meet talented local First Nations members, artisans and elders, who are enthusiastic to share their Nuu-chah-nulth culture through various workshops and experiences. Join Čakʷaasiqḥw ̓ iłim (Jeneva Touchie) from Yuułuʔiłʔath for a language lesson including a walk to the č ̓ iin ̓ uł (totem pole) and the ḥakum housepost or čiisqʷał (Nicki Love) for a Nuu-chah-nulth cultural session blending teachings and whalebone tools. Save the date! Coastal Pathways is a four-day, place-based learning spring-break camp from March 22nd-25th, 2027 designed to build confidence, empower youth, and introduce participants to coastal career pathways in science, sustainability, tourism, and arts. Youth grades 6-8 & 9-12 are invited to experience the West Coast through hands-on activities, guided field experiences, workshops, mentorship, and immersive learning led by West Coast NEST staff, local professionals, environmental organizations, artists, and Nuu-chah-nulth knowledge holders.
