Calling all local educators and teachers! In celebration of Science Odyssey Week, West Coast NEST, in partnership with Cedar Coast Field Station, will be hosting an educational webinar on Tuesday, May 11th from 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. that will provide participants an introduction to using ArcGIS StoryMaps in the classroom.
Cedar Coast Field Station will present their StoryMap focused on their juvenile salmon monitoring project in Clayoquot Sound and demonstrate valuable StoryMap tools and features to provide local youth an interactive resource to learn about marine, environmental, and sustainability science and research. The webinar will also feature a film showcasing Cedar Coast Field Station’s juvenile salmon monitoring fieldwork and an interview with one of Cedar Coast Field Station’s marine biologists. The video is the first of a series being created, with a goal of inspiring youth to consider pursuing careers in science and technology.
This event is part of the ‘Science and Conservation in the Clayoquot Biosphere Region’ project, a joint initiative of Royal Roads University, Clayoquot Biosphere Trust, and West Coast NEST, and supported through a NSERC PromoScience grant. This project intends to provide online resources for local youth to learn more about local science initiatives and inspire them to pursue a career in marine, environmental, and sustainability science.
